City of Walker to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Did you know that in 1962 petitions were circulated throughout Walker
Township for incorporation as a Home Rule City? The question was
present to the voters and was approved. A Charter Commission drew
up a charter which passed in November 1962. Approval of the Charter
established Walker as a City and plans are underway to commemorate
that milestone. A committee consisting of residents and staff members
has been formed to begin planning for events that will take place in
2012. If you would like to participate on the committee or would like to
submit your ideas or comments, please contact City Manager, Cathy
Vander Meulen at 616-791-6859. Look for upcoming notifications
concerning the schedule in future newsletters and on the City's website.

                         money for our local community.

                         Pulled Port, Pizza, and Hot Dogs will be available to eat
                         Cost $6.00 for adults $4.00 for kids
                         Raffle will be held for items being donated by local businesses
